What are the committee Roles and Responsibilities?
Meet once every fortnight
Include pupils amongst its members, from Year 1 - 6
As far as possible, have pupils fill all executive roles of the Committee with adult support as required
Take charge of carrying out the Environmental Review with help from the rest of the school create an Action Plan to keep track of projects.
Ensure that all sectors of the school community (especially pupils) are represented in the decision-making process.
Provide a link between pupils, teachers, senior management and the whole school community.
Involve and inform the wider community regarding Eco-Schools initiatives
Ensure that the whole school is aware of the Eco-Schools programme
What decisions do the committee make?
Eco Committees should keep records of their decisions in the form of minutes.
Minutes should be shared at school management meetings, with all classes/year groups and displayed on the Eco-Schools noticeboard.
Pupils on the Eco Committee should feedback outcomes of Committee meetings to their peers after every Committee meeting. Many schools buddy their older pupils with their younger ones to assist them with this process.
Key issues could be raised at school assemblies or Parent Council meetings. Wherever possible, pupils should carry out this process with adult support as required.
